Lo Spicchio

Lo Spicchio is a fantastic villa furnished to a high standard in the heart of the Chianti, just a few minutes drive from Radda in Chianti. It is surrounded by excellent views of the rolling Tuscan hills covered in vineyards and olive groves. To the back of the villa there is a small hamlet.
The large gardens are well maintained with English lawns and plenty of local plants, including lavander, rosemary, cypress trees and roses. Next to the villa, surrounded by a terracotta deck is the infinity pool, which looks out towards the breathtaking views.
From the pool area several steps lead down to a pretty terrace paved in terracotta and shaded by a wood and terracotta roof. This has an iron table with six chairs, to one side is an iron bench with cushions. Against a wall is another table, topped with marble, perfect for preparations. Here there are two barbeques, one gas powered the other wood powered. The terrace looks out to the Chianti hills and views. Large, arched glass and wood doors, protected by an iron gate, lead into the Tuscan villa.
Inside is a bright, spacious lounge, tiled with traditional Tuscan terracotta and with the typical ceiling of wooden beams and terracotta. To one side is a large fireplace with a glass front, for a welcoming fire for the cooler nights. The room is furnished with two large leather sofas and an armchair around a wood and glass coffee table. A wooden staircase leads to the upper floors.
Half way up the stairs is an arched entrance to the kitchen. Going up to the top of the stairs is a small corridor. Off this is a large double bedroom with plenty of space. It is furnished with a big wardrobe, chest of drawers, an armchair and a wooden bench with cushions. The floor is with glazed terracotta, making this a cosy room in the typical Tuscan style. Off the room is a large en-suite bathroom with tub, that also has a shower head however there is no shower curtain.
Entering the well equipped kitchen, to the right there is the cooking area, which has a large marble topped island for work space. Below the windows is further marbled work space and a marble sink. Completing this area is an oven, gas hobs, fridge with separate freezer and a glass fronted fireplace.
The dining area is to the other side of the room. There is a beautiful oval, wooden table surrounded by six covered, comfortable chairs. The entire room is bright and spacious, with a high ceiling of wooden beams and terracotta.
A glass and wood door leads out to a second covered terrace. It is furnished with a large wooden table and iron chairs. To one side are two comfortable, external armchairs. The terrace is paved in old, uneven terracotta tiles. It opens out to the manicured garden.
To the back of the kitchen is a small corridor. On the left there is a bathroom with shower. To the right is a narrow twin bedroom, which has an armchair with footstool and wardrobe. Doors provide access to the garden. This room cannot be made into a double.
From the corridor, directly in front of the kitchen is a second double bedroom. The lower part of the room has a writing desk with chair and a wardrobe. Stairs lead up to a mezzanine floor protected by an iron railing. On this floor there is a low double bed and a wardrobe with drawers along one wall. This part of the room has a low roof, in some parts it is about 1.5 metres.
The double rooms cannot be made into twins. The twin bedroom cannot be made into a double.
An occasional car will pass the property to enter into the Adine hamlet.
Throughout the villa there are speakers connected to the music system in the lounge.

Pool Info
The pool is located next to the villa, completely surrounded by a terracotta deck which has plenty of sun beds. To one side of the pool is a wooden structure with a creeper, this is a pretty shady spot to relax and enjoy the spectacular Chianti views that stretch out before you.
The infinity pool has roman steps into the shallow end. It gets plenty of sun during the day making it an excellent place to enjoy the warm Tuscan summer.
The pool is 10x3.5 metres and 2.5 metres deep. It is open all year round.
Nearest town
The nearest village is Lecchi in Chianti, 3km, here there is a small grocery shop and a restaurant. The closest town is Radda in Chianti, 7km. It has all amenities including banks, post office, doctor, pharmacy and an Internet point.

There was just so much to like: the unique restoration of the villa and the attention to detail; the absolutely amazing pool and garden; the welcome pack; the bedding and the beds; the facilities available in the house and the absolutely amazing hospitality of the owner.
I can honestly say there was nothing that we didn't like about the villa.
Siena was wonderful with so many wonderful places to see in the City and great attractions. We really enjoyed being so close to Radda as it is a beautiful little village/town. There were so many shops in Radda that were fantastic value, particularly the shop with the beautiful soaps and essences of Italy. We didn't tend to eat out because part of the enjoyment of the holiday was being able to shop in the local markets and speciality stores and then cook in the wonderful villa.

The pool, albeit beautiful, was terribly cold. We knew it wasn't heated but it was so cold we couldn't use it. This really put a dampner on our holiday and would mean we won't return.

A beautiful location with views over rolling olive groves and vineyards; great out-door spaces so there was always somewhere to find shade, sun or breeze; a great pool; and a beautifully presented house. We loved it.
If we were going to stay for longer I'd have liked a larger, better-lit kitchen, but it was perfectly good for our needs. I wish it was less expensive so we could come back more often, but you get what you pay for. I'm sure we'll come back one day.
Florence, Sienna and San Gimignano, obviously not to be missed, but the nearby small old towns - Radda, Giole, La Castilla - were very attractive. We returned to Radda many times - they have several very good restaurants and a great alimentare / delicatessen.

A beautiful home in wonderful countryside. The pool was a necessity in the July heat. We enjoyed the easy access to the surrounding villages and towns.
I left an exercise book at the house with all our recommendations. Our American neighbor in Adine, who is a chef, advised on some great restaurants and vineyards. We tried them all in our 2 weeks at Lo Spicchio.

Lo Spicchio est un puits d'harmonie au cœur du Chianti ! Goût et confort, l'intérieur de la villa est décoré avec un raffinement Toscan recherché. Le jardin est un Éden de fleurs et d'oliviers qui offre de nombreuses invitations au repos et à la méditation. La piscine à débordement est merveilleuse, bordée de cyprès et plongeant vers un panorama enchanteur. Quant à notre hôtesse, elle n'est que délicatesse, gentillesse et discrétion, bref ! Nous avons découvert notre RDV annuel de villégiature toscane !

Die alleinige Benutzung des Pools!
Das Haus liegt sehr abgelegen (schön ruhig) und man muss trotzdem nicht weit fahren um in die nächste Stadt zu gelangen.

I like To Tuscany, partly because it has a tremendous range of villas, and partly because (unlike many companies) it has an excellent website that provides what you really want when choosing a villa.

Our accommodation, which cost less than £800 for the week, is in a converted stone farmhouse next to a 12th Century Franciscan chapel. There is a pergola shaded by vines round the back here we quickly settle into a rhythm of eating long pasta suppers while the shadows lengthen.
